New Zealand Maritime Museum

Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa, New Zealand Maritime Museum is situated in the vibrant Viaduct Basin, along the waterfront of the Waitematā harbour in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The New Zealand Maritime Museum is the place where the stories of people and the sea are preserved, shared and explored with our visitors.

Aotearoa is one of the most seafaring nations in the world. The story of every one of us is affected by the sea – through immigration, trade, design, innovation and leisure.
This whare taonga houses one of the nation’s most important heritage collections, which covers the breadth of our relationship with the sea. Our mission is to connect people to the moana.

Developed in line with the Ministry of Education, the curriculum-linked programmes and topics can be tailored to all levels, from Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary to ESOL groups. On offer are a mixture of workshops, self-guided trails and on-water experiences, as well as online lessons for schools based outside of the Auckland region, all delivered by trained and experienced classroom teachers.

House of Science (HoS) has been delivering quality, hands-on science resources and teacher PLD to NZ primary and intermediate schools for many years. Materials are completely bi-lingual ensuring no school or kura is excluded. HoS is well placed to enrich classroom learning through supplementary student experiences that provide broad learning opportunities. The HoS ELC programme is tailored to enhance science learning in a local context. Please note schools need to be House of Science members to access the HoS ELC support.
