At the Lakes District Museum and Art Gallery, the Education Programme has access to a 30,000-strong collection of artefacts, archives, and photographs. The museum itself houses many galleries: Geology, Southern Māori, Pioneers, Gold Mining, Chinese, Medicine, Banking, Law & Order, Domestic Life, Farming, Transportation, Tourism, and a Victorian Schoolhouse.
It is located in Arrowtown – Kā-muriwai, a former goldmining town with over 70 heritage buildings, the only remaining intact Chinese Goldfields Settlement in NZ and an outstanding natural environment. They provide a wide range of cross-curricula, hands-on and online programmes to ākonga from early learning centres right up to NCEA Level 3 and every school and kura in between.
