Te Wharewaka o Pōneke
The team at Te Raukura, Te Wharewaka o Pōneke introduce you and your students to the cultural concepts of Mana Moana (caring for the sea), Mana Whenua (caring for the land) and Mana Tangata (caring for people) through waka and walking experiences delivered right here in our Aotearoa’s capital city. These cultural concepts are intrinsically linked to Māori culture and will provide your students with a practical experience that will not only energise them academically but physically.
Discover, learn and experience Māori culture, tikanga and te reo from a Te Ātiawa ki Te Whanganui a Tara/Taranaki Whānui perspective and gain an understanding of what makes us all unique.
The waka and walking excursions have been designed to accommodate small or large groups of students and within this framework we can incorporate other aspects of Māori culture that will give your students an unforgettable learning experience. Delivered by friendly experienced guides/educators we will shape your students into kaihoe, teaching them the basic commands and chants, haka and salutes in preparation for an on water experience, or a cultural walking experience to discover the layers of Māori history in Wellington.
Safety of our visitors
As a form of manaaki tangata, your safety and comfort is of the utmost importance and we have taken every care to ensure that our tours are safe providing a comprehensive RAMS package. Our experienced team will guide all passengers through a safety briefing as part of the mihi whakatau (welcome). We strive to ensure our experiences are authentic therefore our team will provide guidance to ensure your safety from a cultural perspective.
